It has been a really busy weekend. It started Friday with Rodeo Day, then Ashley had a Grace Dribblers basketball game. She had her best game yet and so did the rest of her team mates. They actually won their first game and looked like they have really come a long way since the first game. Ashley passed, dribbled (and double dribbled), and even shot (at the wrong basket). She was so excited about the win.
However, this blog is not about basketball. It is about softball. Rose Country Girls Softball Association kicked off this year’s softball season with opening ceremonies on Saturday morning. It was unseasonable COLD, especially in the morning at the field on the hill, but it didn’t seem to both the B’Attitudes!

As they ran the bases during opening ceremonies, their names were called out and they got to “high five” the Great American Cookie. Ashley (second to the last in the picture below) was thrilled to hear her name on the loud speaker.

We had some time to kill before practice and the girls’ first game but they were super excited about their debut (and they looked great in their hot pink and black uniforms).
Warming up and getting ready to bat and enjoying every minute of it…

Ashley (also known as Robo-Cop because of all the padding and the way she walked while wearing it) playing catcher. She needs to hustle a little bit more behind the plate (and not look at me in between every play), but she is certainly learning to stop the ball and throw it back to the pitcher. She is even using the right hand and left foot when she throws – that is a big step from the first practice.

Now, on to batting. We have a lot of work here but she is improving. She doesn’t listen when the coach tells her not to swing. She likes to swing and her swing is a little slow. She didn’t get a hit the first game but she tried hard and I was proud of her effort.

After the game, which we lost but were proud of how well the girls played their first time together, we ran some errands, including going to the grocery store. Ashley decided on Friday night that she would like to learn to cook, like the chefs on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and she would like for us to be her “tasters”, like Guy Fieri, the host. As a result, we decided her first meal should be hot dogs. Jason taught her how to light the grill, bring out the hot dogs, put them on, turn them and take them off. (Note – her hair looks terrible as a result of playing catcher – not good for the hair style that looked so cute when the day began). She even put the cooked dogs in the buns by herself and topped them with lots of ketchup.

I wish I had pictures of the finished product, but I forgot to grab the camera and she ate them really quickly. I also didn’t get to be “Guy”. She only cooked two hot dogs and decided she didn’t want to share either during a taste test, but they looked and smelled delicious.
I caught this sweet moment, which I guess was her way of saying “thank you” to Jason for her first cooking lesson. He was very proud of how hard she worked at the grill.

Next on the list…grilled cheese!
