Well, Cannon had been praying we would see snow in Kentucky and on Wednesday morning, his prayers were answered. We woke the kids up for breakfast that morning and it was snowing outside. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long and it didn’t stick, but after getting ready and driving 20 minutes down the road, we found snow again – at Pop’s!
After a few minutes in the snow with no real winter gear, we warmed up inside by the fire.
After saying our sad goodbyes at Pop and Dixie’s, we dropped back by Aunt Linda’s to have our last Ale 8’s and hot chocolate and say our final goodbyes there as well.
Then, we were off to our final Kentucky destination, Somerset. The kids hit it off (amazing how they did that wherever we went – family is such a strong bond) and they played in the “fort”, played dress up, had a “hot chocolate” party, played with the dogs, and enjoyed a good family visit with the Salter’s (Dad’s first cousin, Denise’s family).
Our cousin Julie and her husband Jack live in Grandma Williams old house. This would be our Dad’s maternal grandmother’s home.
After a quick visit, we headed on to Uncle Richard and Linda’s (Dad’s brother) to see them and let the kids play with Abby and Amelia. Last stop of the trip. :(
The view from their back deck…beautiful!
Once again, the kids got comfortable right away and they really seemed to lift Uncle Richard’s spirits (he had double knee replacement surgery about a month ago)
More dress up…
Buddy…
Linda made sure we didn’t go away hungry. She made a lasagna and the kids had pizza and breadsticks. It was delicious and the first home-cooked meal we had had since we left Texas. Yum!
Hutch and Abby hit it off…
And we didn’t want to get out of there without a picture with Uncle Richard…
Whew! It was a full day and we were exhausted.
It was sad to see our spring break trip come to an end. We are hoping to return to Kentucky for our Dad’s family reunion in Somerset in July 2014 with the kids and our husbands. We just didn’t have enough time to get it all in!
